Focused Ultrasound Thalamotomy for Tremor in Parkinson's Disease: Outcomes in a Large, Prospective Cohort

Unilateral MRgFUS thalamotomy's largest prospective study evaluated 48 patients with refractory tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease (TdPD). Tremor control remained significant at all follow-ups (up to 3 years), with mild side effects including gait imbalance, sensory deficits, motor weakness, dysgeusia, and dysarthria at 3 months, some persisting at 1 year. The study establishes MRgFUS thalamotomy as an effective and safe option for sustained tremor control in TdPD patients, with minimal adverse effects.
