FOLFIRI Shows Superiority in Advanced Gastric Cancer Treatment

A recent study evaluating second-line treatments for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) after initial docetaxel-based chemotherapy has revealed significant findings. Conducted with 198 patients, the study compared FOLFIRI and paclitaxel regimens. Results indicate that FOLFIRI achieved a median progression-free survival (mPFS) of 5.2 months compared to 4.1 months with paclitaxel. Furthermore, the median overall survival (mOS) was 9.4 months for FOLFIRI versus 7.2 months for paclitaxel. These findings suggest that FOLFIRI may be the preferred second-line treatment option for AGC patients following first-line docetaxel-based therapy, offering extended survival benefits and a more favourable safety profile than paclitaxel.
