Fostamatinib Ineffective in COVID-19

The phase 3 trial evaluating fostamatinib in hospitalized adults with COVID-19 and hypoxemia found no significant improvement in oxygen-free days compared to placebo. Conducted across 62 sites, the study involved 400 participants, with a median age of 67. The fostamatinib group showed 13.4 oxygen-free days compared to 14.2 in the placebo group (adjusted odds ratio, 0.82). Mortality rates and most safety outcomes were comparable, except for higher aspartate aminotransferase elevations in the fostamatinib group. These findings do not support fostamatinib's efficacy during the Omicron era.
