A study was conducted to analyze the gut virome in infants and their mothers through viral metagenomic sequencing of stool samples. The study found differences in virome composition between the infants and their mothers. The virome in infants contained bacteriophages, dietary and environmental viruses, and human-host viruses, while the virome in mothers did not contain human-host viruses but contained vertebrate viruses. The study suggests that the development of the virome in early life is influenced by diet, environmental factors, and infections rather than being acquired from the mother.
