FSTL1 Shows Promise as Cardiovascular Biomarker

A study investigated the potential of follistatin-like protein 1 (FSTL1) as a biomarker for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in the population. Elevated FSTL1 levels were associated with cardiovascular risk factors, particularly arterial hypertension. High homocysteine (Hcys) and serum amyloid A (SAA) levels correlate with CVD presence. Conversely, increased lactonase (LAC) activity and paraoxonase 1 (PON1) concentration were linked to reduced CVD risk. These findings suggest FSTL1's promise as a clinical biomarker for monitoring cardiovascular risk.
