Full block or split block?—Comparison of two different autogenous block grafting techniques for alveolar ridge reconstruction

This study assessed bone gain after alveolar ridge augmentation using different autogenous block graft designs from the mandible. The retrospective analysis of 171 grafts from 91 patients revealed greater horizontal and vertical bone gain in the split‐block group. The mean horizontal gain was 3.37 mm in the full-block group and 5.79 mm in the split-block group. The vertical gain was 2.85 mm in the full-block group and 7.60 mm in the split-block group. The split‐block technique resulted in a greater bone gain than the full‐block technique.
