Geriatric Prognostic Scoring System Shows Significance in Predicting Postoperative Survival for Elderly Liver Cancer

A study evaluated the Geriatric Prognostic Scoring System's predictive efficacy for postoperative survival in elderly liver cancer patients. The study analyzed eighty-eight patients aged ≥75 utilizing parameters like age, sex, cancer type, stage, performance status, body mass index, and comprehensive geriatric assessment to create the Geriatric Prognostic Score (GPS). Patients were categorized as high-risk (≧30) or low-risk (<30). High-risk patients exhibited a 3-year overall survival rate of 35.1%, significantly lower than the low-risk group (78.5%). The GPS emerged as an independent significant factor in survival analyses, aiding treatment strategy determination for elderly liver cancer patients undergoing hepatectomy.
