Gigantol Inhibits P. gingivalis Growth and Biofilm Formation

This study demonstrates that gigantol effectively inhibits planktonic growth and biofilm formation of P. gingivalis, a key pathogen in periodontitis. At sub-MIC levels, gigantol suppressed growth, disrupted membrane integrity, altered surface hydrophobicity, and downregulated gingipain-related genes. Molecular docking confirmed its interaction with Kgp and RgpB proteases. Importantly, gigantol showed lower cytotoxicity on human gingival fibroblasts compared to chlorhexidine, supporting its therapeutic potential.
