Ginsenoside Rd Restores Retinal Barrier via AMPK-FAO Pathway

Endothelial metabolism regulates blood-retinal barrier integrity in diabetic retinopathy. This study identifies AMPK-associated fatty acid oxidation (FAO) inhibition as a key driver of vascular dysfunction via oxidative stress. Ginsenoside Rd (Rd) activates GPR30, stimulating AMPK and restoring FAO, thereby reducing blood-retinal barrier breakdown. These findings highlight a metabolic-targeted strategy for diabetic retinopathy, emphasizing GPR30 activation as a therapeutic approach.
