Glucagon and GLP-1 receptor dual agonist survodutide for obesity

A study investigated the glucagon receptor-GLP-1 receptor dual agonist survodutide (BI 456906) for obesity management. Between March and November 2021, 387 participants were enrolled, with 386 receiving treatment. 60.4% completed the 46-week treatment. Mean changes in bodyweight from baseline to week 46 showed significant reductions across all survodutide doses compared to placebo. Adverse events, mainly gastrointestinal, were more frequent in survodutide recipients. The study concludes that all tested doses of survodutide were well-tolerated and led to dose-dependent reductions in bodyweight, suggesting potential efficacy in obesity management.
