Glucose Variability Links to Fat Content and Insulin Sensitivity

Glucose variability is linked to intrahepatic fat content and insulin sensitivity in obese youth. This study found that greater glucose variability, measured through continuous glucose monitoring, was associated with higher liver fat content and reduced β cell function. Specifically, first-phase insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, and postprandial glucose levels were all affected by glucose variability. These findings suggest that glucose fluctuations play a significant role in metabolic dysfunction in pediatric obesity.
