The study aimed to investigate the anatomical variations of the peroneal muscles and lateral malleolus in patients with and without recurrent peroneal tendon dislocation. The study included 30 patients with recurrent peroneal tendon dislocation and 30 age- and sex-matched control patients. The results showed that a low-lying muscle belly of the peroneus brevis and a larger muscle volume in the retromalleolar space were significantly associated with peroneal tendon dislocation. However, retromalleolar bony morphology was not associated with peroneal tendon dislocation.
