This study investigated whether the use of the FreeStyle Libre system (FSL) for glucose monitoring in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Canada is associated with changes in treatment intensification compared to blood glucose monitoring (BGM) alone. The study used a Canadian national private drug claims database and identified cohorts of people with T2DM using FSL or BGM. The results showed that people using FSL had a higher probability of treatment progression compared to those using BGM alone, independent of diabetes treatment at enrollment and patient status. The study concludes that FSL may be used to support the escalation of diabetes therapy to improve therapeutic inertia in T2DM.
