Health Organization recommends modifying Corona vaccine to target single strain

The advisory group suggests developing new combinations of COVID-19 vaccines to target mutant strains like XP1.5 and XP1.16 and neutralizing other prevalent strains. They recommend excluding the original strain as it no longer circulates in humans and elicits low levels of neutralizing antibodies due to mutations. Vaccine makers like Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Novavax are already working on vaccines targeting these mutations. Bivalent boosters for Omicron and the original strain were distributed previously. The group emphasizes using approved vaccines according to WHO recommendations. WHO revised guidelines in March, stating healthy children may not need vaccination, while older and high-risk groups should receive boosters 6-12 months after the last dose. These recommendations follow the end of the global COVID-19 emergency declared by the WHO.
