This population-based cohort study in Southern Denmark involving aimed to explore the link between hearing loss and incident dementia, investigating the impact of hearing aid use. Over a mean follow-up of 8.6 years, 23,023 dementia cases were identified. The study revealed that hearing loss correlated with an elevated dementia risk, with more significant risks associated with severe hearing loss. Importantly, individuals using hearing aids exhibited a lower dementia risk compared to those with untreated hearing loss. The findings suggest a potential preventive role of hearing aids in dementia onset and progression, emphasizing the necessity for further high-quality longitudinal studies.
