A study sheds light on the impact of hepatobiliary complications following bone marrow transplantation (BMT), a standard treatment for haematologic conditions. The study found that 55.7% of 377 patients developed these complications. Women, those with pre-BMT liver issues, and haploidentical allogeneic transplant recipients faced a higher risk. Patients with hepatobiliary problems had more extended hospital stays, and the risk of death was nearly five times higher. This research underscores the need for better monitoring and managing hepatobiliary complications post-BMT.
