High Cardiovascular Health Lowers Gestational Diabetes Risk

The study explored the relationship between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) scores and gestational diabetes risk among US adults using National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys data from 2007 to 2018. A total of 3,189 participants were analyzed, revealing gestational diabetes rates of 15.33%, 11.46%, and 7.71% for low, moderate, and high cardiovascular health (CVH) categories, respectively. High CVH was associated with a decreased risk of gestational diabetes (OR: 0.49, 95% CI: 0.29-0.83, p = 0.01), while moderate CVH showed no significant association (OR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.50-1.20, p = 0.25). Notably, high CVH significantly reduced gestational diabetes risk in individuals with a family history of diabetes (OR: 0.357, 95% CI: 0.176-0.724, p = 0.005). These results underscore the importance of maintaining high cardiovascular health to mitigate gestational diabetes risk.
