A retrospective study of 4.5 million publicly insured German residents (2014–2020) revealed a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and obesity in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). In 2020, 53.0% of T2D patients had CVD, 39.3% had obesity, and 20.9% had both. The prevalence of CVD and obesity increased by 1.4% and 4.5%, respectively, since 2014. Among patients with T2D, only 13.0% received glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and/or sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, with slightly higher use among those with CVD (12.9%) or obesity (19.4%). The study highlights the low use of these treatments despite their benefits.
