A systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized global prevalence statistics of depression, anxiety, and stress in the elderly population. The analysis included 42 articles on depression, 47 on anxiety, and 13 on stress. The findings indicated an overall prevalence of 19.2% (95% CI: 13.0 − 27.5%) for depression, 16.5% (95% CI: 11.1 − 22.8%) for anxiety, and 13.9% (95% CI: 5.5 − 30.9%) for stress. The highest rates of depression and anxiety were observed in Africa, with increased prevalence in nursing homes. Notably, stress levels were elevated among individuals with COVID-19. These results highlight a critical need for enhanced prevention and management strategies for mental health disorders among the elderly population.
