A study of 80 diabetic cataract patients found that those with poor glucose control (HbA1c > 7.0%) had higher rates of cystoid macular edema (CME) and central macular thickness (CMT) post-surgery. HbA1c levels were strongly correlated with CME and CMT at 1, 3, and 6 months, making them a key predictor of surgical outcomes.
