This study evaluated the effectiveness of high-power laser therapy for immediate pain relief in cancer patients with oral mucositis that did not respond to standard treatment. The study included 25 patients who received laser treatment, and pain levels were assessed before and after treatment using a numeric rating scale. The results showed that 94% of the laser therapy sessions resulted in a decrease in pain, with 61% of sessions reducing pain by over 50% and 35% eliminating the initial pain completely. There were no reports of increased pain after treatment. The mean reduction in pain was 72% for chemotherapy-treated patients and 60% for radiotherapy-treated patients. The pain relief lasted for an average of 6.0 days. Overall, high-power laser therapy appears to be an effective and long-lasting non-pharmacological option for refractory oral mucositis pain.
