Higher Alcohol Consumption Associated with Greater Incidence of Total Hip Replacement due to Hip Osteoarthritis in Women

The study investigated the relationship between alcohol consumption and hip osteoarthritis in women, as this topic has received little attention in research. The study used data from the Nurses' Health Study cohort in the United States, assessing alcohol consumption every four years from 1980, and followed 83,383 women without diagnosed osteoarthritis from 1988 to June 2012. The results showed that alcohol consumption was positively associated with hip osteoarthritis risk in a dose-dependent manner, with higher alcohol consumption linked to a greater incidence of total hip replacement due to hip osteoarthritis in women.
