Higher RSV Hospitalization in Preterm Infants Without Palivizumab Prophylaxis

A significantly higher proportion of 29–34 weeks gestational age (wGA) preterm infants were hospitalized with RSV during seasons without routine palivizumab prophylaxis (7% vs. 2.1%, p < 0.001). Multivariable analysis showed a 2.6-fold increased risk (95% CI: 1.8–3.9, p < 0.001). Clinical severity remained similar. The findings stress the need to include 29–34 wGA infants in future RSV immunoprophylaxis programs.
