Histologic inflammation and collagen content are not positively correlated in human BPH

The study discovered an unexpected connection between prostate inflammation, collagen content, and urinary symptoms. In a study involving 53 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), inflammation was inversely related to collagen content. Moreover, prostate volume played a critical role: smaller prostates had increased inflammation and decreased collagen, while larger ones exhibited the opposite. This discovery could reshape our understanding of BPH/LUTS treatment.
