Cognitive behavioural therapy has been found to reduce post-viral fatigue in patients suffering from long-COVID or Post-Covid Syndrome. Researchers from Amsterdam UMC, RadboudUMC and three other hospitals compared the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy with standard care on patients with persistent fatigue after COVID-19. The therapy focuses on reducing fatigue by helping patients deal with symptoms differently, such as improving their sleep-wake rhythm and gradually increasing physical activity. The study found that patients who underwent cognitive behavioural therapy experienced significantly less fatigue and improved concentration, as well as social and physical progress. The benefits were still present six months after treatment, and the therapy was deemed safe with no worsening of symptoms or new symptoms arising.
