hSSB1 (NABP2/OBFC2B) modulates the DNA damage and androgen‐induced transcriptional response in prostate cancer

The article discusses the potential role of human single-strand binding protein 1 (hSSB1/NABP2) in regulating the cellular response to androgens and ionizing radiation in prostate cancer (PCa). The study shows that hSSB1 expression in PCa correlates with measures of genomic instability and defects in the repair of DNA double-strand breaks. It also regulates cellular pathways that control cell cycle progression and associated checkpoints. In addition, hSSB1 negatively modulates p53 and RNA polymerase II transcription in PCa and plays a role in regulating the androgen response. The findings suggest that exploiting hSSB1 in PCa could improve patient outcomes by ensuring a durable response to androgen deprivation therapy and/or radiotherapy.
