Hydrogels in Periodontitis Treatment: Innovations and Prospects

Hydrogels in Periodontitis Treatment: Innovations and Prospects

Periodontitis is a widespread oral disease that causes microbial infection, inflammation, and damage to periodontal tissues. Hydrogels have shown significant potential as carriers and regenerative materials in treating periodontitis. This review highlights recent advances in hydrogel design, including thermosensitive, self-healing, photo-crosslinkable, and adhesive properties, and explores their applications in drug delivery systems targeting antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and osteogenic therapies. The synergistic use of these hydrogels offers promising solutions for periodontitis treatment and other oral health conditions.
