Hyperestrogenism is associated with sexual function impairment in men—findings from a cross‐sectional, real‐life study

This study examined the prevalence and impact of hyperestrogenism on sexual functioning in men with new-onset erectile dysfunction. Data from 547 men seeking medical help for erectile dysfunction were analyzed. It was found that 17.6% of participants had elevated serum estrogen levels indicative of hyperestrogenism. Men with hyperestrogenism were older, had more comorbidities, and higher serum testosterone levels compared to those with normal estrogen levels. They also had a higher prevalence of severe erectile dysfunction and hypogonadism. Serum estrogen levels were positively correlated with testosterone levels but negatively correlated with orgasmic and erectile function scores. Hyperestrogenism was associated with severe erectile dysfunction. Overall, hyperestrogenism was prevalent among men seeking medical help for erectile dysfunction and was associated with various negative outcomes.
