A systematic review and meta-analysis of 104 studies involving 16,587 patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) reveal a high prevalence of hypertension among OLP sufferers (24.17%, 95% CI = 21.45–27.00), with a significant association reported (OR = 1.28, 95% CI = 1.01–1.63, p = 0.04). The evidence quality varies from low to moderate. This suggests that individuals with OLP may be at an increased risk of hypertension due to various factors. Healthcare practitioners managing OLP should be vigilant about this comorbidity, taking suitable measures and considering referrals for suspected hypertension.
