Hypofractionated Proton Therapy Shows Strong Local Control in Rare Head & Neck Mucosal Melanoma

Hypofractionated spot-scanning proton therapy offers promising local control with acceptable toxicity in patients with head and neck malignant mucosal melanoma. In a 39-patient retrospective study, 3-year local control reached 83%, though progression-free survival remained limited due to distant metastases. Quality of life was largely maintained, with expected declines in pain, swallowing, and oral function. Larger tumors predicted poorer outcomes.
