IIT Guwahati researchers develop AI-based model to predict knee osteoarthritis from X-ray images

Researchers have developed a Deep Learning based framework called Osteo HRNet that can automatically assess the severity of Knee Osteoarthritis from X-ray images. The AI model detects the severity level of the disease, aiding remote diagnosis by medical practitioners. The model utilizes a Deep Convolutional Neural Network algorithm to predict the severity of Knee OA based on the WHO-approved Kellgren and Lawrence grading scale. The researchers are also exploring the use of low-resolution radiographic images and smartphone photos for further application of the model.
