Impact of Childhood Maltreatment and Positive Traits on CPTSD

Impact of Childhood Maltreatment and Positive Traits on CPTSD

Emotional abuse is the strongest predictor of CPTSD symptoms in adolescents (n=1894, Mage=13.88), with higher rates of other maltreatment forms seen. Mindfulness and self-compassion were identified as key positive traits, while gratitude had no significant association. Adolescents with low positive traits are more likely to experience maltreatment, indicating that emotional abuse and low positive traits are strongly linked to CPTSD. Positive traits show limited buffering effects.
