Impact of COVID-19 on mental health in the Middle East: A cross-sectional study

This study investigated the correlation between the Middle East's COVID-19 outbreak and mental health, particularly depression and anxiety. A survey-based approach gathered data online to assess the pandemic's mental health impact in the region, reaching 1,281 respondents. Post-pandemic anxiety diagnoses rose significantly (38.0% vs. 6.8%), as did depression diagnoses (32.0% vs. 5.0%). Participants often reported diminished interest (43.4%) and physical symptoms like chest cramps (22.4%) related to pandemic thoughts. Logistic regression highlighted age and gender as influential factors in post-pandemic anxiety and depression. Policymakers should emphasize coping strategies, awareness campaigns, and education programs to address this heightened mental health concern.
