The DAPA-MODA trial investigated the effect of dapagliflozin, a medication used for treating heart failure (HF), on cardiac remodelling parameters, specifically left atrial (LA) remodelling. The trial included 162 patients with stable chronic HF who were already receiving optimized therapy. Echocardiography was performed at baseline, 30 days, and 180 days. The primary endpoint was the change in the maximal LA volume index (LAVI). The results showed that dapagliflozin administration led to a significant reduction in LAVI at 180 days, primarily due to a decrease in reservoir volume. Left ventricular (LV) geometry also improved with reductions in LV mass index, end-diastolic volume, and end-systolic volume. NT-proBNP concentrations were also significantly reduced. Overall, dapagliflozin resulted in global reverse remodelling of cardiac structure in patients with chronic HF.
