Impact of Intrapartum Glucose Control on Neonatal Outcomes in GDM

A retrospective cohort study of 508 women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) assessed the relationship between intrapartum maternal hyperglycemia and neonatal hypoglycemia. Results showed no significant association between maternal time above range (TAR) glucose levels >126 mg/dL and neonatal hypoglycemia. Higher TAR >100 mg/dL correlated with increased neonatal glucose levels. Maternal hypoglycemia was linked to neonatal hypoglycemia, suggesting that strict intrapartum glycemic control may be unnecessary. Optimized glucose targets during pregnancy with less stringent intrapartum control are recommended to prevent adverse neonatal outcomes.
