Impact of ventilation tube insertion on long-term language outcomes at 6 and 10 years of age

A study investigated the impact of early childhood VTI on long-term language outcomes. The study, involving 2900 pregnant women, found that children who received VTI had significantly lower Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) scores at six years compared to the reference group. A consistent trend of lower measures across Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals® Preschool-3 (CELF-III) scores was observed at ten years. The findings suggest a potential long-term risk associated with VTI, prompting consideration of its benefits.
