
This study investigated the link between visceral fat (VF) and coronary artery plaque in 145 asymptomatic patients using computed tomography. Visceral fat, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), was measured along with plaque volume and composition. The results revealed correlations between VF and plaque volumes, especially for low-density noncalcified plaque (LD-NCP), a high risk for CVD. As VF increased, so did plaque volume, particularly LD-NCP. This suggests VF could be useful for identifying CVD risk. This study emphasizes the significance of managing visceral fat to prevent future cardiovascular events, highlighting the potential utility of VF in CVD risk assessment.
