Impact of Weight Loss on Healthcare Costs in Japan

The study models the impact of weight loss on healthcare costs and complications in a cohort of 100,000 Japanese individuals aged 20–69 years with a BMI of 25–50 kg/m². The analysis projects a significant reduction in healthcare costs, particularly from lower incidences of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnoea, with cumulative cost reductions of 34.6 million USD for a 10% weight loss and 47.7 million USD for a 15% weight loss over 5 years.
