Implantable haemodynamic sensor to remotely MONITOR HF

Remote monitoring of pulmonary artery pressure using an implantable sensor has been found to improve the quality of life and reduce hospitalizations in patients with chronic heart failure (HF). The MONITOR-HF trial, conducted in the Netherlands, tested the CardioMEMS HF System, which provides remote detection of blood pressure changes indicating worsening HF. After 12 months, the remote monitoring group showed a significant improvement in quality of life and a 44% reduction in HF hospitalizations. The use of the CardioMEMS System was generally safe, with high rates of freedom from complications and sensor failure. These findings may contribute to device reimbursement and wider adoption in Europe.
