Implementation of an Atrial Fibrillation Decision Aid Care Pathway in the Emergency Department Reduces Atrial Fibrillation Hospitalizations

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) patients in emergency departments (ED) benefit from a new decision aid, reducing hospitalization rates from 60.5% to 48.3%. The aid involved 10 hospitals, showing promising results in guiding patient disposition independently of patient and hospital factors. However, there was a small increase in the rate of return to the ED within 30 days of the initial presentation. The study emphasizes the importance of decision aids to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations in AF cases.
