Improving Prenatal Detection of Aortic Coarctation Using Key Echocardiographic Markers

Aortic coarctation remains one of the most underdiagnosed congenital heart defects. This retrospective study evaluated echocardiographic parameters to improve prenatal detection of high-risk cases. Among 128 suspected cases, 11.7% were confirmed postnatally, with most showing early warning signs during gestation. The pulmonary-to-aortic valve diameter ratio and aortic isthmus z-score emerged as reliable predictors, supporting earlier diagnosis, better referral pathways, and improved neonatal outcomes.
