COVID-19 patients with DKA experienced worse acute outcomes and had a higher incidence of new insulin treatment post-infection. Type 1 diabetes, steroid therapy for COVID-19, COVID-19 status, black race, and male gender were associated with an increased risk of DKA. Timely intervention and monitoring are essential to manage DKA and insulin dependency in COVID-19 patients.

The findings improve understanding of electrolyte abnormalities in PHAII and may guide future therapeutic strategies targeting renal potassium handling.

Researchers call for prospective studies using standardized imaging, endoscopy, and molecular analyses to clarify the prevalence and clinical significance of potential upper airway involvement in CPAM.

The findings indicate that CAOs may identify patients at risk of early osteoarthritis and could aid in the diagnosis and management of unstable hips in BDDH.
