Incidence, risk factors, and long-term outcomes associated with permanent pacemaker implantation

The study examines the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) following aortic root replacement (ARR). Among 2240 patients undergoing ARR from 2005-2020, 3.8% required PPI, mainly for complete heart block. Risk factors included bicuspid aortic valve, female gender, preoperative heart block, and prior AVR. PPI was linked to longer hospital stays but not to increased mortality.
