India can address neonatal mortality burden via technology and infrastructure

India continues to face a critical issue as it records the highest number of neonatal deaths globally, approximately 750,000 annually. Most cases occur in rural areas, lacking necessary medical facilities. Experts highlight the need to address the scarcity of NICUs in tier II-III cities and remote regions. Preterm births, limited healthcare access, and inadequate maternal health are key contributing factors. India aims to reduce neonatal deaths to less than 10 per 1000 live births by 2030.
