India Permits Reopening of Cough Syrup Factory Linked to Uzbek Deaths for Marion Biotech

India's Uttar Pradesh state has granted permission for Marion Biotech, a cough syrup manufacturer, to resume most production, as per an official order seen by Reuters. This decision follows last year's tragic incident where cough syrups linked to Marion were associated with the deaths of 65 children in Uzbekistan. The World Health Organization and other agencies linked Marion Biotech, along with two other Indian firms, to the deaths of 141 children across Uzbekistan, Gambia, and Cameroon. The state drug controller stated that while Marion Biotech's license was partially reinstated, the permission to use propylene glycol (PG) was revoked due to its adulteration. The case unfolds as the investigation deepens into the suppliers and officials involved in this unfortunate incident.
