The study analyzed the trade-off between noise attenuation and signal quality, with 12 participants experiencing mild to moderate hearing loss. Disturbance from signal distortions was equally crucial in determining noise reduction (NR) preference, alongside background noise disturbance. Preference strength varied between individuals but showed consistency in distortion and noise effects. Realistic NR had a tenfold smaller preference.
