Integrating Genetics, Transcriptomics, and Proteomics in Lung Tissue to Investigate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

A study investigated the integration of transcriptomic and proteomic data from lung tissue to gain insights into the mechanisms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The research analyzed associations between lung transcriptomics, proteomics, and COPD in 98 subjects. While low correlations were generally observed, higher correlations were found for COPD-associated proteins. The study identified regulatory genetic variants (QTLs) that influence COPD biomarkers. Mediation analysis and colocalization analysis revealed connections between genetic variants, transcripts, and proteins associated with COPD. Network analysis identified two modules related to COPD, one associated with the catenin complex and the other with plasma membrane components. These findings contribute to understanding COPD pathogenesis by identifying key genes and proteins working together.
