The study evaluated intensive chemotherapy with or without the anti-CD33 antibody-drug conjugate gemtuzumab ozogamicin in patients with newly diagnosed NPM1-mutated acute myeloid leukaemia. Although the primary endpoints of short-term event-free survival and overall survival were not met, gemtuzumab ozogamicin showed anti-leukaemic efficacy with a significantly lower cumulative incidence of relapse rate. This suggests that adding gemtuzumab ozogamicin could reduce the need for salvage therapy in these patients.
