Recent studies indicate that kidney injury alters the composition of mesenteric lymph and expands the intestinal lymphatics. The lymphatics, distinct from blood vessels, transport potentially harmful substances generated by the intestines. Kidney diseases lead to deleterious changes in intestinal lymphatics, promoting the production and distribution of harmful factors, which in turn contribute to disease progression in other organ systems. The study focuses on the mechanisms of kidney disease-induced intestinal lymphatics changes and a vicious cycle of detrimental organ cross-talk.
