
The study investigated the role of the PG1237 (CdhR) gene, which encodes for a LuxR transcriptional regulator, and its adjacent gene PG1236 in the resistance of Porphyromonas gingivalis to nitric oxide (NO) stress attacks from immune cells in the periodontal pocket. The researchers created mutants of P. gingivalis with allelic exchange mutagenesis to determine the involvement of these genes in NO stress resistance. The results showed that CdhR might play a role in NO stress resistance and in a regulatory network in P. gingivalis.
